Biblical Church
Government
Although church government is not essential to salvation, the principles of church order are a part of divine revelation, and therefore cannot be overlooked. How can the whole counsel of God and the gospel be conserved if a scriptural government is not established and maintained?
We practice biblical church government which can be described as Presbyterian, taking its name from the term used in 1 Timothy 4:14 (cf. Acts 11:30, Acts 15). It seeks to avoid the problems of independency and congregationalism which can often lead to the rule of the majority.
By checks and balances it seeks to provide mutual accountability among officers, and thus avoid an oppressive hierarchy that is found in some churches. Presbyterianism is an old pattern of church government going back to the early days of church history and refined in the days of the Reformation.
